Plenum-rated fiber

The 24-strand indoor/outdoor plenum-rated fiber-optic cable permits building owners to connect buildings with fiber-optic cables that can run directly between the telecommunication rooms of the buildings being linked. By eliminating the need to terminate the fiber-optic cables in the entrance facility of the buildings, as required with standard outside plant fiber-optic cable, there are reduced termination costs, decreased entrance facility space requirements, and termination points are kept in a protected environment by placing them in the telecommunication rooms. The cables can also be installed in plenum spaces without the use of plenum innerduct. The cables are tight buffered with a 900-micron buffer and can accept connectors without the breakout kit typically required for loose-tube style outdoor fiber-optic cables. 62.5 micron multimode fiber is currently available, with 50-micron multimode and 8.3 micron single-mode soon to be released. Six to 12 fiber counts are also available.

Highly bendable fiber

AllWave FLEX ZWP single-mode fiber is a zero water peak G.652D fiber designed for applications where small bend diameters may be encountered. The fiber maintains low bending loss across the full usable spectrum of wavelengths, from 1,260 nm to 1,625 nm. It can be coiled into a 20-mm loop with < 0.5 dB incurred loss at 1,625 nm and < 0.2 dB incurred loss at 1,550 nm–five times better bending performance than conventional single-mode fibers. AllWave FLEX ZWP fiber also helps improve cable performance in demanding high-stress and low-temperature environments by providing double the microbending performance of conventional single-mode fibers.

Rack cooling

The CoolFrame solution integrates Liebert XD cooling technology with the Egenera BladeFrame EX system, enabling customers to deploy high-performance servers while adding virtually no heat to their facilities. Adding CoolFrame reduces the heat dissipation of the rack to the room from as much as 20,000 watts to a maximum of 1,500 watts, without impacting the performance of the 12 processor cores per square foot. The CoolFrame solution also reduces the energy costs for data center cooling of a BladeFrame EX environment by eliminating 1.5 kW of fan load per rack from the room cooling system. The Liebert XD is a waterless cooling solution that delivers focused cooling through an infrastructure that includes a pumping unit or chiller, and overhead piping system with quick-connect fixtures. Flexible piping connects Liebert XD cooling modules to the infrastructure, making the addition of modules or reconfiguring the system easier.

Stereo audio over CAT 5

The Stereo Hi-Fi Balun allows one line-level analog stereo audio channel to be connected via CAT 5 twisted-pair cable, thus replacing two standard audio cables. Used in pairs, the balun has a bandwidth of 20 Hz-20 KHz and is designed for high-fidelity audio applications where full spectrum audio frequency response is required. The product features built-in left/right RCA cable leads to allow AV equipment to be connected directly to the structured cabling system, and supports up to 3,250 feet (1 km) via CAT 5 cable.

Connector cleaner cartridge

The Fiber Optic Connector Cleaner Cartridge uses cleanroom-grade cleaning media to remove dirt, dust, oil, grease and debris from connector endfaces. A rubber pad beneath the cleaning surface prevents scratches and a sliding cover protects the cleaning media from contamination.

Remote power control

Control and maintain electrical devices from anywhere with the iBoot DC. The direct-current (DC) version of its iBoot remote power solution is a single-circuit power switch that allows remote equipment to be rebooted or power-controlled over an IP network using a simple Web browser interface. Users can connect any DC electrical-powered device to the iBoot for simple and instantaneous power-on, power-off or reboot. This allows users to protect and maintain the uptime of devices in areas that cannot easily be accessed or serviced. In addition to its core functions, the iBoot DC can be programmed to periodically monitor the operating status of the network or network-attached device through an auto ping feature.

Preconfigured server cabinet

The preconfigured Core VPR “Viper” server cabinet is designed to accept high-density server deployments. The cabinet has two sets of EIA-310 square-hole rails with silkscreen U markings, and is 2,600-lb. static load tested. Eighty percent free-air perforation is standard on the front and rear doors, and the quick-release mesh top panel. Split rear doors are also a standard feature. The fully assembled, 42U multivendor-compatible frame is available with 36” and 42” depths, at 24”, 28” and 31” widths. The 24”-footprint version is designed to fit on domestic 2’x2’ raised floors. Built-in cable-management and pass-through ports are included in the frame structure, and a variety of add-on cable-management and power-distribution options are available.

10-Gbps fiber testing

The WireScope Pro is a hand-held cable and fiber tester that offers fast cable certification for CAT 3 to CAT 6a/7. The unit delivers superior near- and far-end crosstalk measurement performance, as well as alien crosstalk (AXT) measurements–indispensable for testing LAN cabling’s suitability for running 10-Gigabit Ethernet. As an expandable platform, the WireScope Pro is available at CAT 3 to CAT 6 test capability and can be upgraded to CAT 6a/7 capability at a later stage. Simple, automated point-to-point tests keep user interactions at a minimum to help prevent operator failures and unnecessary repetitions. New Fiber SmartProbes cut test times of optical links by eliminating the need to swap fibers for bidirectional testing and calibration.

Multimode fiber testing

The Sunset MTT-45 Module for IEEE’s new C37.94 standard allows the SunSet MTT platform to be an all-in-one test solution for xDSL, SONET/SDH, E-1/T-1, Ethernet, ISDN, VoIP, data communications, optical fiber and copper wire testing. The module is designed to assist technicians as they turn up a new network or work to isolate problems on both sides (teleprotection and multiplexer) of an existing network using an Nx64 Kbps multimode optical fiber interface. The new module’s bit error rate testing capabilities allow engineers to check the performance of IEEE C37.94 links prior to turning up the circuits, ensuring consistent and reliable network performance once deployed. The unit’s alarm monitoring and optical power measurement enable technicians to verify connectivity and power levels for the optic fibers to assure uninterrupted operation.

Cable tester/certifier

The Validator-NT is an all-in-one Ethernet network-management tool that certifies CAT 5, CAT 5E and CAT 6 cables to be IEEE compliant to 1-gigabit speed. The product allows the testing for TIA568 interconnect problems and allows the detection of fault locations, cable length, and delay or noise conditions. The device also tests coax, telephone, audio and security cables, as well as qualifies VoIP lines. Administrators can check IP address on netmask, gateway/routers and domain servers, and access DHCP hosts to obtain network information. Included software can produce and print cable test schedules, test results, create layouts of network equipment, and allow notes to be added to each component for future reference.
